Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Auqaf Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is an administrative Department under Schedule of the Government Rules of Business, 1985 headed by an administrative Secretary who also acts as Chief Administrator Auqaf, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It has the office of Administrator Auqaf as an autonomous body, normally headed by an officer from Provincial Service. Auqaf Administrator’s office is a self-generating body (autonomous body) and meets its daily expenditure from its own revenue sources which include rents/lease amount received from Waqf Properties (both agricultural as well as commercial). The income received from these sources is utilized on repair/maintenance, construction of mosques, shrines under the management of Auqaf Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, salaries of the staff of Administrator Auqaf and other religious welfare and charitable purpose.

Function

Main function of auqaf department are Administration, Religous and Affairs

Religious and Affairs:

  • Holding of Husn-e-Qirat competition.
  • Celebration of Seerat-un-Nabi (S.A.W) conference.
  • Convening of Ulemas and Mashaikh Conference
  • Meeting of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
  • Arrangements of Mefal-e-Shabina.
  • Reception of scholars, religious prominent figures of different Islamic countries and conduct of their tours in the Province.
  • Hajj arrangements.
  • Tabligh propagation.
  • Hajj Conference.
  • Publication of Islamic books.
  • Safeguarding Distortion of Holy Quran.

Administration of:

  • Charitable and Religious Endowment
  • Religious Trusts
  • Muslims graveyard taken over by the Chief Administrator of Auqaf under section 6 of the West Pakistan Waqf Properties Ordinance, 1961
  • Control and repair, etc, of all Historical Mosques and Shrines taken over by the Auqaf Department

 

Minority Affairs:

  • Safeguarding the rights of minorities.
  • Promotion of Welfare of Minorities.
  • Meetings of the Provincial/District Minorities Committee.
  • Co-ordination with the Federal Government on matters relating to welfare of minorities.
  • All other matters relating to Minorities.

OBJECTIVE

Main objective of auqaf department are listed below

Objective:

  • Facilitation of Hajj Arrangements.
  • Inculcation of Religious Harmony among various Muslim Sects.
  • Inculcation of Inter-faith Harmony among all people of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
  • Special Minority Welfare Projects for poverty eradication.
  • To carry out charitable, pious and religious activities and to provide maximum support to the Imam and Khadims of the Masajid.
  • To run the affairs of the Masajid appropriately thus fulfilling the wishes of Waqif (who dedicates the property in the name of Allah).
